리시는 미시건 대학 공대 화학과를 다니던 중 모교 학생들을 대상으로 동아리 이벤트 T-Shirt 를 디자인, 인쇄하는 회사를 차렸습니다. 리시는 석사 과정을 마치기 전까지 미시건 대학 학생들을 대상 마케팅에 성공, 11개의 대학 캠퍼스로 판매점을 확장하고 공장을 매수하는 등 활발한 비즈니스를 펼쳤습니다. Underground Printing 은 미국의 혁신기업 인덱스인 Inc 5000 에 뽑힌 회사이며, 미국 No. 1 창업잡지 Inc 잡지가 선발한 미국에서 가장 서비스가 뛰어난 100개의 소비자 물류업체 중 63위로 뽑혔습니다. 지난 해 매출 80억을 달성한 Underground Printing은 2008년, 미국 중소기업청 (SBA) 중서부 베스트 창업자상을 수상하기도 했습니다. 미국 중소기업청 중서부지방청장 리차드 뎀킨은 “리시 나라얀은 높은 직업윤리와 창업자정신을 발휘해 소규모 인쇄회사를 수익율높고 혁신적인 기업으로 발전시켰다.” 고 칭찬했습니다. 리시 나라얀은 재활용 식용류를 자동차 연료로 만들어 공급하는 친환경 버스택스 회사 BTB Party Bus 를 창업하고, Mini Seed 라는 벤처 캐피탈도 만들어 젊은 창업자들의 사업 아이디어를 실현하는데도 기여하고 있습니다.
Rishi Narayan founded Underground Printing (then A-1 Screen Printing) while he was still a student at University of Michigan. He now has 11 stores all over the Midwest area. Underground Printing grew into a successful business. Underground Printing is an Inc 5000 company, and Inc. magazine selected Underground Printing among 100 best consumer product companies. They were awarded SBA’s 2008 regional award for Midwest. Richard Temkin, district director for SBA said “Both Ryan Gregg and Rishi Narayan have used their work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit to turn a small printing operation into a highly profitable and innovative company.”
